Le prochain colloque bisannuel du Programme National « Physique et Chimie du Milieu Interstellaire » (PCMI) aura lieu à l’Ecole Normale Supérieure, du 24 au 28 octobre 2022:

Le Programme National PCMI est une action sur projets du CNRS/INSU également soutenue par le CNRS/INP, CNRS/INC, le CNES et le CEA (www.pcmi.cnrs.fr). Il anime les recherches entre physiciens, chimistes et astrophysiciens pour progresser dans la compréhension des milieux interstellaires et circumstellaires de notre galaxie et des autres galaxies.

Trois questions majeures motivent le programme : (1) la formation des grandes structures interstellaires et leur lien avec la formation des étoiles et des planètes, (2) le rôle du milieu interstellaire dans l’évolution de notre galaxie et des galaxies proches ou lointaines, et (3) le rôle du cycle de la matière entre les différentes phases dans l’accroissement de la complexité moléculaire.

Format
Après un colloque PCMI 2020 entièrement en ligne en raison de la situation sanitaire, une participation « en présentiel » est fortement encouragée, afin de favoriser les échanges entre équipes et d’initier de nouvelles collaborations. Conscients cependant des difficultés que ce format est susceptible d’engendrer pour plusieurs membres de la communauté PCMI, une participation en mode « distanciel » sera néanmoins proposée, à un tarif réduit. Les exposés seront par ailleurs enregistrés et mis en ligne sur le site web de la conférence et via une chaîne YouTube. Afin de permettre aux jeunes chercheurs étrangers présents dans nos laboratoires de profiter pleinement des exposés, ceux-ci pourront être en anglais, ou à tout le moins les présentations sur lesquelles ils s’appuient.

Appel à ateliers thématiques
Le programme scientifique préliminaire du colloque inclut deux demi-journées consacrées à quatre ateliers sur des thématiques d’intérêt spécifique. Par cette première annonce, nous sollicitons donc la communauté PCMI pour recueillir vos propositions d’atelier. Merci de les adresser à pcmi-dir@iram.fr pour le 4 mars 2022 au plus tard.

Contributions orales et posters
L’appel à contribution sera ouvert à partir du 28 mars 2022 et jusqu’au 29 avril 2022. Nous encourageons particulièrement les doctorants et post-doctorants, ainsi que les équipes ayant obtenu des financements PCMI à présenter leurs travaux, mais l’appel reste bien sûr ouvert à toute équipe travaillant sur les thèmes au cœur du programme. Une trentaine de contributions orales seront retenues, d’une durée de 20 minutes (15 minutes d’exposé + 5 minutes de questions). Deux sessions « poster » d’une heure trente chacune seront organisées, et les participantes et participants auront la possibilité de mettre en ligne une courte vidéo de présentation accompagnant leur poster. Les posters seront affichés en permanence dans le Hall du Département de physique de l’ENS, où auront lieu les pauses café.

Dear colleagues,

The next biennial conference of the National Program « Physics and Chemistry of the Interstellar Medium » (PCMI) will take place at Ecole Normale Supérieure, from October 24 to 28, 2022.

The PCMI National Program is a CNRS/INSU project also funded by CNRS/INP, CNRS/INC, CNES and CEA (www.pcmi.cnrs.fr). It fosters interactions between physicists, chemists, and astrophysicists to further the understanding of interstellar and circumstellar environments, in our Galaxy and in other galaxies.

Three major questions motivate the program: (1) the formation of large interstellar structures and their link to star and planet formation, (2) the role of the interstellar medium in the evolution of our Galaxy, and of nearby or distant external galaxies, and (3) the role of the cycle of matter between phases and the growth of molecular complexity.

We look forward to seeing many of you in Paris!

Format
After a PCMI 2020 conference entirely online due to the health situation, a « face-to-face » participation is strongly encouraged, in order to promote exchanges between teams and initiate new collaborations. However, as we are aware of the difficulties that this format is likely to cause for several members of the PCMI community, participation in « remote » mode will nevertheless be offered, at a reduced rate. The presentations will be recorded and posted on the conference website and via a YouTube channel. In order to allow young foreign researchers in our laboratories to fully benefit from the presentations, the talks may be in English and the slides should be.

Call for thematic workshops
The preliminary scientific program of the conference includes two half-days dedicated to four workshops on specific themes of interest. With this first announcement, we are asking the PCMI community for your workshop proposals. Please send them to pcmi-dir@iram.fr by March 4, 2022 at the latest.

Oral contributions and posters
The call for papers will be open from March 28, 2022 to April 29, 2022. We particularly encourage PhD students and post-doctoral researchers, as well as teams that have obtained PCMI funding to present their work, but the call is of course open to any team working on the core themes of the program. About thirty oral contributions will be selected, each lasting 20 minutes (15 minutes talk + 5 minutes for questions). Two poster sessions of one hour and a half each will be organized, and participants will have the possibility to upload a short video presentation of their poster. The posters will be permanently displayed in the Hall of the Physics Department of the ENS, where the coffee breaks will take place.
